Updating a pre-Modano X workbook to Modano X

Hi,

I have updated to Modano X and I'm trying to figure out how to convert my existing model templates to the new format.

When opening an existing model it is upgraded to Modano X, but it retains its old formatting/theme. I tried updating the active workbook theme to the new styles but nothing changes.

It seems to me that when I export a module the new theme is applied. Therefore, I could export each module and then recombine to create the same model in the new format. Is there another, faster way?

Also, when I had a cell selected I used to go to the Build tab to see what style was applied under Assumptions, Outputs, or Presentation (it was highlighted). This no longer shows in Modano X. Can you bring that feature back?

Thanks,

James

Hi James,

The themes are applied on a workbook level, so rather than going to Options to change themes, you'll need to go Options > Change Active Workbook Theme.

Once you hop in there, then go to the import tab, select the theme you want and hit the import button. Once you've done that, click okay and it'll prompt you that it's about to make all the changes.

Having said this, some of the new format is not carried over so there may be a little bit of playing around to get it up to date, but it'll clean up the majority of styles etc.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, Jun. I had tried Change Active Workbook Theme earlier, but not importing the theme. That worked.

My template is an adjusted version of the Modano Comprehensive GST suite. I tried to export each module and import into the new Generic COA-6 model rather than make the same adjustments to the Generic COA-6 again. I tried this because exporting modules seems to apply the Modano X format by default. However, when I try to import those modules into the Generic COA-6 file I receive an error saying "The prerequisite time series module of the module you are trying to insert is not compatible with the time series module in the active project..."

Both the old and new models appear to have the same time series (monthly historical + forecast). Are old modules incompatible with Modano X models, or is there another adjustment I can make to the exported modules to make them importable?

Thanks,

James

Hey James,

Yeh, you'll need to play around with the time series a bit. You'll find that the theme will change, but the content in X tends to be left aligned, where the content in 8 is indented (and there's differences in blank space).

Generally this is not an issue, but for time series it will be. Best bet is to use the Time Series > Conflicts Identifier to find where the discrepancies are. You'll find it's a matter of the left aligning of the assumptions sheet, as well as spacing in the assumptions and lookups sheets.

Let me know if you're still stuck with it.

I'll give the conflicts identifier a try.

Thanks!

Thanks for your help, Jun.

I was able to use the time series conflicts identifier to make the old modules compatible.

I was also able to use the tool to convert the annual time series in annual dashboards (such as financial statements summary and ratios) to a monthly time series for use in monthly models. These now present annual dashboards in the monthly model.

Thanks!

Hah, never thought of using it that way before. Nice one!
