Auto-recovered files

Hi team,

I have started creating a financial model including building out a time series assumptions and outputs module. However, the workbook was auto-recovered this morning and I am unable to use the Modano functionality anymore e.g. my time series term (years) changes does not flow through to my time series assumptions or output sheets. Then when I try to access Project Manager I am getting a message to 'Activate a modular workbook before attempting to load the Modano Project Manager'. The workbook had also become protected, which I updated through File > Info > Unprotect.

Am I missing something simple here to recover the Modano functionality for this workbook or will I have to start this over?

Thanks,

Kaylin

Hi Kaylin,

The Excel auto-recover functionality cannot be used to recover modular workbooks. This is because the modular metadata is appended to the Excel workbook when it is saved, so when a workbook crashes this data is not appended to the workbook and when it is re-opened the Excel and modular data will be misaligned.

For this reason, we've developed the Recover Files tool, which gives you access to your last 20 saved workbooks. You can learn more about it in this prior forum post: www.modano.com/forum/automatic_back_up_save

In your instance, your workbook might be OK, but may not have been loaded correctly by Modano. This will be evidenced by no asterisk in the Modano tab - as shown below for a validly loaded workbook:

To be sure, we recommend restarting your computer, opening Excel, then opening your workbook via the Modano tab, Open menu, From File command, and seeing if the asterisk appears.

In any case your Modano subscription includes technical support so please reach out to our team via the Support section of your Modano account and they can help you in circumstances like this.

Hi Kaylin

I would strongly suggest getting in the habit of using "Save As" (F12) and changing the version number every time (as often as possible, I try to save every 15 minutes or so) rather than just saving over the top of the same file. This is the safest way of ensuring you don't lose too much work in the event of a system crash etc.
